Kennedy has gone 9-1 against Colton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will face off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Kennedy made easy work of Western Christian and carried off a 12-2 win. Considering the Trojans have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grace Traeger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Traeger was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gabriela Farnsworth was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Emily Ruef was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Colton came up short against Perrydale on Wednesday, falling 20-10. Even if the Vikings couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Katelynn Kimsey was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
The win got Kennedy back to even at 5-5. As for Colton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kennedy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .554. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've averaged .539. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Kennedy's way against Colton in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Kennedy made off with a 20-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
