Softball Game Preview: Oxford Academy Patriots vs. Savanna Rebels

The Oxford Academy Patriots will face off against the Savanna Rebels at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Savanna took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Oxford Academy, who comes in off a win.

Last Tuesday, Oxford Academy made easy work of Lennox Academy and carried off a 15-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Patriots.

Emily Ganguly made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Ganguly was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xiomara Martinez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kendra Luu, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Oxford Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lennox Academy only posted an OBP of .273.

Savanna kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 17-2 to Katella. The Rebels have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Savanna saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kimberly Jimenez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Oxford Academy beat Savanna 9-4 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Oxford Academy repeat their success, or does Savanna have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
