Basketball Recap: Marion Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Marion won the last time they faced South Florence, and Jaden Gerald did his part to make sure it happened again. The Marion Swamp Foxes strolled past the South Florence Bruins with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 64-47 thanks in part to Gerald, who went 10 of 18 on his way to 25 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Charles White Jr, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

South Florence's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jarius Davis, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 19 points, and Josh Gamble, who posted 14 points in addition to seven assists and five steals. Gamble has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lennix Valerie, who put up six points and nine boards.

The win was the fourth in a row for Marion, bringing their record for this year to 6-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for South Florence, they moved to 9-6 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marion will host Manning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Marion: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Manning has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for South Florence, they will welcome Wilson at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Florence is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
