The St. Francis Sharks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 67-60 to Pacific Grove. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the loss, St. Francis still got an impressive performance from Joseph Rose, who went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 3 assists. That was a full 48.3% of St. Francis' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Braun, who scored 16 points along with seven assists.
Pacific Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabriel Valencia led the charge by scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Valencia pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brody Edmonds, who scored nine points along with two steals.
St. Francis bumped their record down to 1-12 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Pacific Grove, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Francis will take on Seaside at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pacific Grove, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Monterey County at 7:00 p.m.
