Chiawana has gone 8-2 against Southridge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Riverhawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Suns at 4:00 p.m. Chiawana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Chiawana took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Pasco with a sharp 17-0 win. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Riverhawks this season.
Gabriella Garza was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Amelia Smith was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Audrina Conner also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Chiawana always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .808. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Southridge earned an 11-8 victory over Kennewick on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Suns in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Like Chiawana, Southridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Garvey. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off 13 hits. Garvey was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Southridge got a massive performance out of Mallory Idler, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Orian Hagen, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.
Southridge's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Chiawana, their record is now 7-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Chiawana hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Chiawana's way against Southridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Chiawana made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Riverhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
