The Kalama Chinooks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. The game between Kalama and Wahkiakum wasn't particularly close, with Kalama falling 65-48. While losing is never fun, Kalama can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Wahkiakum is ranked 115th).
Several Chinooks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jevan Lucente, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Lucente scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Sigfridson, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Kalama were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their seventh loss (out of eight games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Kalama's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-10. As for Wahkiakum, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Kalama will head out on the road to face off against Castle Rock at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Castle Rock is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Wahkiakum, they will be playing at home against Stevenson at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Stevenson is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
