Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington). Everything went their way against the Evansville Reitz Panthers on Monday as they made off with a 12-3 victory. This was payback for the Hatchets, who suffered a 5-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Trey James made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Washington is 3-1 when James posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Merold, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. He has become a key player for Washington: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Clark, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Washington and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Evansville Reitz, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington will welcome Southridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Evansville Reitz, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Evansville Central at 4:00 p.m. The Panthers are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
