Basketball Game Preview: Silver Valley Trojans vs. Granite Hills Cougars

The Silver Valley Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Granite Hills Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Silver Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Granite Hills likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Silver Valley against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy as the squad secured a 74-43 win. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Jasean Phillips was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds. The game was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Javion Taylor, who posted six points in addition to 12 assists and seven boards.

Silver Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Granite Hills came into Friday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 51-45 W over Victor Valley on Friday.

Silver Valley has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.4 points. As for Granite Hills, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-11.

Silver Valley came up short against Granite Hills in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 76-71. Can Silver Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
