Softball Recap: Mercer Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Mercer put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Middlesex Big Reds a 5-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Angelina Eakman was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Beers, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Adison Foster was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Mercer's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for West Middlesex, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Mercer will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Sharpsville at 4:15 p.m. As for West Middlesex, they will head out on the road to challenge Farrell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
