Lightridge is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Briar Woods is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Bolts will welcome the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Lightridge's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Osbourn Park 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Bolts' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The result came thanks to Peyton Robinson's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lightridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emmi Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Harris' first of the season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Briar Woods sidestepped Brentsville District for a 4-3 victory.
Caprice Bohmer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bohmer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Castellon, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Posusney, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Lightridge's win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Briar Woods, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Briar Woods' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lightridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. It's a different story for Briar Woods, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Lightridge's hitters?
Lightridge beat Briar Woods 4-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bolts repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
