St. John Bosco is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Santa Margarita, who was ranked fourth at the time (St. John Bosco was ranked first). The Braves came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 27-14 on Friday.
St. John Bosco found their leader in sophomore Koa Malau'ulu, who threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes. Malau'ulu is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. St. John Bosco's leading receiver Madden Williams was Malau'ulu's top target yet again, picking up 111 receiving yards and one TD.
St. John Bosco didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Santa Margarita to a completion percentage of just 48.1%. The team can thank Sesi Sulunga for the heroic effort on defense: he. Given Malau'ulu's standout performance, it's clear Santa Margarita's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

St. John Bosco's defense didn't let Trace Johnson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. Dutch Horisk was especially locked on to Santa Margarita's QB and sacked him three times. With that strong performance, Horisk is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Josiah Poyer was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles.
Meanwhile, Servite came up short against Mater Dei on Saturday and fell 29-19. The Friars were down 29-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
St. John Bosco will have to contain Kale Murphy as he made an impact in Servite's last game. He threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 43 yards. Judah Clark was in the mix as well, providing Servite with two scores.
St. John Bosco's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Servite, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
St. John Bosco beat Servite 27-17 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Friars' Quaid Carr, who rushed for 166 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.9 yards per carry.
