CLAYTON, N.C. - After three lead changes,
Orange (Hillsborough, N.C.) took the lead for good when
Garrett Cloer threw a touchdown to
Ky Muller with 5:00 to go in the second quarter and held on to beat
Cleveland (Clayton, N.C.) 59-50 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Cloer to Muller in the second quarter, the Panthers were up 24-21 at the half.
Orange expanded its lead to 10 points entering the fourth quarter. OHS scored three times in the third, including once on a
Patrick Pettiford touchdown run.
The Hillsborough school was ahead by as much as 17 before the Rams pulled closer.
Taiquan Dixon made a difference for Cleveland. The senior wide receiver threw two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
The defeat comes as a step back for Cleveland, which notched a 33-13 victory over Grays Creek in its previous outing.
In its next matchup the Clayton school (9-4) will take on Orange in a playoff game. The Panthers will bring a record of 11-1 into the meeting.
