Eldorado is 1-9 against Sandia since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eldorado Golden Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Sandia Matadors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Saturday, Eldorado humbled Piedra Vista with a 70-29 victory. Given Eldorado's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Piedra Vista is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sandia came up short against Farmington on Friday and fell 66-55. Sandia has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Sandia got a solid performance out of Thomas Adams, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Adams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaire Ndyabagye, who scored 13 points.
Eldorado's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Sandia, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Things could have been worse for Eldorado, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-45 loss to Sandia when the teams last played back in January. Can Eldorado avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
