Payson barely beat North Sanpete the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Hawks on Saturday. Aydrie Christensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Payson got a big performance out of Mahaila Buys, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Paisley Beckstead was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Sanpete only posted a batting average of .150.
Payson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for North Sanpete, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Payson has already played their next game, a 12-1 win against Alta on the 12th. As for North Sanpete, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 10-1 defeat against Spanish Fork on the 12th.
