Zach Silva and Chris Thompson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Cibola. The connection was good for 60 yards, the longest such play in 5A District 2 this season.
Michael Rose of La Cueva ran for the longest rushing play in the league this season against the Cougars last week. Rose ran for 90 yards on the play and finished with 162 on the day as his team beat Cibola.
Thompson was the best wideout in the league this week as La Cueva bested Judge Chavez's team. Thompson tallied five receptions for 125 yards. Rose helped La Cueva's passing attack out by catching four balls for 82 yards.
Zach Gentry put up the best numbers through the air as Eldorado lost to Rio Rancho. He finished with 18 completions for 289 yards and five touchdowns. Gentry's favorite target this week was Toben Brazier, who caught six passes for 88 yards.
Manzano's Angel Gonzales and Skyler Walker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A District 2 in both passing and receiving yards. Gonzales has thrown for 1181 yards this season, while Walker, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 32 catches for 526 yards. Rose from Ed Lucero's team leads the league in rushing with 631 yards.
The Bears took down the Cougars 37-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Silva threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns in the win.
