The Waverly Vikings entered their tilt with the Duchesne Cardinals with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Waverly strolled past Duchesne with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 45-31. Given Waverly's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Duchesne is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Waverly's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Peyton Tritz, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Christiansen, who scored ten points.
Duchesne's loss came despite strong showings from Jada James and Addy Kula. James scored 12 points along with seven rebounds, while Kula scored five points along with two steals.
Waverly's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Duchesne, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waverly will take on Hastings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Waverly is facing Hastings at the right time seeing as Hastings is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Duchesne, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Malcolm at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Duchesne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday.
