The Old Forge Blue Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Honesdale Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Old Forge was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Holy Cross on Monday. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 15-0 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Blue Devils this season.
Jake Bartnikowski made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. Bartnikowski was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Frank Pero was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angelo DiMauro, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Old Forge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Honesdale scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Riverside by a score of 13-12. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Trevor Dressler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Honesdale now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Old Forge, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Old Forge's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Blue Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Honesdale, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Old Forge continue to outrun the ball?
Old Forge couldn't quite get it done against Honesdale when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
