Emerson has gone a perfect 3-0 against Memorial recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mavericks will head out to face off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Emerson put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They came out on top against Denison by a score of 31-21. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Mavericks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 341st).
The critical scores for Emerson came from Tj Smith, Brady Mensik, Presha Allen, and Roman Edwards.
Emerson didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Denison to a completion percentage of just 43.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Kaden Reyes and Edwards, who each logged one passes deflected. Emerson wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 75%.

Emerson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Smith, Reyes, and Edwards picked up one apiece. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made eight or more in each of the last three games he's played. Edwards got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Memorial took their matchup last Thursday with ease, bagging a 35-6 victory over Independence. The Warriors pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Knights cut but never quite recovered from.
Emerson better keep an eye on Benjamin Wilson. He was instrumental in Memorial's win, throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt. Those 297 passing yards gave Wilson a new career-high. Landon Diehl was Wilson's top target, picking up 88 receiving yards and one score.
The win got Memorial back to even at 2-2. As for Emerson, the victory also got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything came up roses for Emerson against Memorial in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
