Basketball Recap: Valley Union Takes a Loss

Valley Union lost against Tombstone back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Valley Union Blue Devils had to suffer through a 44-17 loss at the hands of the Tombstone Yellow Jackets. The contest marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Giovanna Curiel, who posted five points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Curiel a new career-high in assists (two). Another player making a difference was Lexi Boss, who scored a point and 37 boards.

Tombstone had a senior duo take command as Rachel Thursby went 8 of 18 on her way to 19 points and four steals and Briella Schuller dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Thursby has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ed'Jerrica Spencer, who had four points and seven boards.

Valley Union's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Tombstone, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley Union will venture away from home to face off against Duncan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Duncan's defense has only allowed 23.8 points per game this season, so Valley Union's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Tombstone, they will head out to challenge St. Augustine Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for St. Augustine Catholic: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Tombstone has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
