Baseball Game Preview: Ruidoso Warriors vs. Tularosa Wildcats

For the second straight game, Ruidoso will face off against Tularosa. The Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ruidoso has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Tularosa will arrive with four straight victories.

Ruidoso heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-5 to Tularosa, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Tularosa's part, Danner Daugherty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Adrius Vigil was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Cameron Holguin was another key player, earning three runs and one stolen base.

Tularosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Tularosa pushed their record up to 17-7 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Ruidoso, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ruidoso has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tularosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
