The Apostles Lutheran Falcons lost against the Averroes Falcon back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Apostles Lutheran took a 56-38 bruising from Averroes. Apostles Lutheran has not had much luck with Averroes recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Apostles Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: Joseph Zhang scored 15 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Zhang scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Borja, who scored seven points.
Apostles Lutheran's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6. As for Averroes, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apostles Lutheran will challenge Calvary Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Averroes, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Fork at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. South Fork knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Averroes likes a good challenge.
