The South Bend Riley Wildcats will take on the Penn Kingsmen at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Penn took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on South Bend Riley, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, South Bend Riley was able to grind out a solid win over Kokomo, taking the game 3-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
South Bend Riley was dominant in they sets they won, taking each by at least 11 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-10, 26-28, 25-14.
Oscar Coronado went supernova, getting 18 digs and four aces. Isaiah Bray also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
They weren't the only good server: South Bend Riley was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Penn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Northridge.
Penn started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-8, 15-12.
South Bend Riley's victory bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Penn, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's contest: South Bend Riley has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Penn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
