Rockbridge County (Lexington, Va.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 38-17 win over
Staunton River (Moneta, Va.).
The Wildcats put up 14 points in the opening frame. Rockbridge County scored on a
Colton Wilson touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Cheyenne Pooley.
After taking the lead on a Wilson touchdown run in the first quarter, RC led 28-17 at the half.
The Lexington school expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The Wildcats' lone score in the quarter came on a field goal by
Miles Bent.
Rockbridge County's standout player in the win was
Omar White. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
RC came into the game allowing 13.0 points per game.
A 21-14 Rockbridge County victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The win was a nice bounce back for Rockbridge County, which lost to Amherst County last week, 35-21.
Rockbridge County (5-1) goes up against Lord Botetourt in a AA Blue Ridge game matchup next week, while Staunton River (2-4) locks horns with Northside also in a AA Blue Ridge game.
