Branford is 2-8 against Trenton since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Branford will challenge Trenton at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Branford barely beat Suwannee the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Branford blew past Suwannee 12-2 on Friday. The Buccaneers have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Mallory Blue made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Blue was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse Frierson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Madyson Sikes also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Branford lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Trenton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Wolf Pack as they made off with a 15-2 victory. That looming 15-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.
Addison Allaire spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Trenton let Emaleigh Philmon and Madison Hinote run wild. Philmon scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Hinote went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Akins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Branford pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Trenton, their record is now 6-1.
