AA District 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Ethan Thomas of Elizabethton ran for the longest rushing play in AA District 1 this season against Sullivan South last week. Thomas scampered for 54 yards on the play and finished with 134 on the day as his team topped the Rebels.
Elizabethton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sullivan South, 21-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for Shawn Witten's team.
The Fighting Cyclones' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Bailey threw for eight yards and Zach Moore had eight yards receiving.
Elizabethton's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Fighting Cyclones feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bailey has thrown for 216 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Moore has 11 catches for 88 yards. Thomas leads the league in rushing with 931 yards.
Thomas of the Elizabethton is only 69 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in AA District 1 this week will be when Sullivan North takes on Johnson County. The Raiders are currently in first, while the Longhorns are in third.
The Fighting Cyclones were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Elizabethton vanquished Sam Haynie's team 21-7 earlier in the week.
