The Camden County Bruins are taking a road trip to square off against the Lawrence Academy Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Camden County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Northeastern on Tuesday. The Bruins never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bruins yet this season.
Cayleigh Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Aaliyah Anderson was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaitlynn Barnes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.
Camden County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .774. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Academy made easy work of Arendell Parrott Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 19-0 win.
Like Camden County, Lawrence Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Lilly Brower. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brower was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Lawrence Academy got a massive performance out of Claire Smith, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Clair Ferebee was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.
Lawrence Academy pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Camden County, their record now sits at 7-4.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Camden County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Lawrence Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Camden County couldn't quite get it done against Lawrence Academy in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 11-7. Can the Bruins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
