After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lincoln, the Woodcreek Timberwolves were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They put the hurt on River Valley with a sharp 68-45 victory. Given Woodcreek's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while River Valley is ranked 752nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodcreek was led to victory by Michael Kirby, Jr. and Aidan Triplet. Kirby, Jr. scored ten points along with four steals, while Triplet scored 20 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Hennessey, who scored six points along with three blocks.
River Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gurtaran Sanghu, who scored eight points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Yuvraj Dosanjh, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Woodcreek has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for River Valley, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
Woodcreek will head out on the road to challenge Roseville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Roseville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Woodcreek likes a good challenge. As for River Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Yuba City at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Yuba City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
