If the Bayside Marlins were riding high off their 60-19 takedown of the Great Bridge Wildcats last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bayside was outmatched by Kellam at home and fell 65-34. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bayside has scored all season.
Bayside lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jessie Ware, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Ware is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Micala Poe, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Kellam found their leader in underclassman Caroline Casady, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Casady hasn't dropped below two blocks for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Kate Spain, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Bayside's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Kellam, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Bayside will head out on the road to square off against Cape Henry Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cape Henry Collegiate will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Kellam will take on Landstown at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Landstown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Kellam is ranked 33rd).
