Leesburg hasn't had much luck against Lake Weir recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Leesburg will challenge Lake Weir at 7:00 p.m. Leesburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.8 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Leesburg came up short against Tavares and fell 5-2. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rachel Chiles was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Brianna Tozer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, Lake Weir didn't have quite enough to beat Lake Minneola on Friday and fell 9-8.
Jenna Schmitt was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Allison Eason was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Lake Weir kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Leesburg's record is now 8-3. As for Lake Weir, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Lake Weir's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leesburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. It's a different story for Lake Weir, though, as they've only averaged .322. Will they be able to contain Leesburg's hitters?
Leesburg might still be hurting after the 12-5 loss they got from Lake Weir in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Leesburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
