Basketball Recap: Wiregrass Ranch Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Wiregrass Ranch had won five straight games and Donovan Gaines did his part to make it six on Friday. The Wiregrass Ranch Bulls strolled past the Wesley Chapel Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 103-84 thanks in part to Gaines, who almost dropped a double-double on 38 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 16.5 points per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kj Smith, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. He has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sian Morris, who went 9 of 19 on his way to 25 points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Hicks, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds.

Wiregrass Ranch's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.2 points per game. As for Wesley Chapel, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Wiregrass Ranch and Wesley Chapel should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Wiregrass Ranch (ranked 31st) will meet Vanguard (ranked 174th) at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wiregrass Ranch is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 77.9 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Wesley Chapel (ranked 42nd) will meet Winthrop College Prep Academy (ranked 254th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
