Basketball Recap: David Carroll's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Father Mcgivney Catholic over Roxana

Father McGivney Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 64-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roxana Shells. The Griffins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Shells apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Several Griffins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was David Carroll, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 22 points. That's the most points Carroll has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Owen Kolesa, who went 6 for 11 en route to 15 points.

Roxana was led to victory by Cohen Dugan and Sean Maberry. Dugan went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points, while Maberry went 6 for 15 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Hollaway, who posted six points and five assists.

Father McGivney Catholic now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Roxana, their record now sits at 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Father McGivney Catholic has already played their next matchup (against Pana), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Roxana won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Taylorville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
