After a string of three wins, the Abbeville Yellowjackets's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Chipley by a score of 45-43. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Abbeville came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 95th in Alabama, while Chipley is ranked 251st in Florida).
Marlee Sullivan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chipley, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sullivan has scored at least 25% of Chipley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Staten , who scored eight points.
Abbeville's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Chipley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Abbeville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Long at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Long is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Chipley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Dothan at 7:30 p.m. on December 23rd.
