The Fort Payne Wildcats entered their tilt with the Oxford Yellow Jackets with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Fort Payne secured a 46-42 W over Oxford on Tuesday. For Fort Payne, this counts as revenge for the 77-50 defeat Oxford walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.
When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xaionna Whitfield. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Whitfield also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Shay Montgomery was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds.
Fort Payne's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of four points across that stretch. As for Oxford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Fort Payne will stay at home for another game and welcome Etowah at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Etowah will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Fort Payne is ranked 64th). Oxford is on the road again on Monday and play against Central at 2:00 p.m. on December 18th.
