The New Trier Trevians will head out to square off against the Stevenson Patriots at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. New Trier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Stevenson will be up against a hot New Trier squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Trevians blew past Jacobs 6-0 on Friday. The Trevians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Greg Campitelli tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jake Bentivenga was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Keenan Donaldson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Stevenson fell victim to Lake Zurich and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Yuni Hamideh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Stevenson saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Crawley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Will Moschea also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
New Trier pushed their record up to 25-7-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Stevenson, they now have a losing record of 16-17.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. New Trier hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Stevenson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
New Trier came out on top in a nail-biter against Stevenson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trevians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
