The Providence Pioneers will square off against the Jennings County Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Providence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Providence didn't have quite enough to beat Salem and fell 7-6.
Bryce Masters was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.
At the plate, Gavin Jackson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cole Huett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Jennings County waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Dragons. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Panthers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Cole Skinner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Skinner was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-6.
In other batting news, Ethan Speer was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases.
Jennings County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.
Jennings County pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Providence, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Providence hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Jennings County struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Providence couldn't quite get it done against Jennings County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Will the Pioneers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
