The Waverly Vikings and the Hastings Tigers will face off on February 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hastings took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Waverly, who comes in off a win.
Even though Waverly has not done well against the Huskies recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Waverly breezed by the Huskies at home to the tune of 61-26. That looming 61-26 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Waverly yet this season.
Waverly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathan Axmann, who scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Keaton Rine, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Hastings was the victim of a tough 67-41 defeat at the hands of the Antlers on Saturday. Hastings has struggled against the Antlers recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Waverly has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. As for Hastings, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Waverly didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Tigers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 58-52 win. Will Waverly repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
