Football Recap: Santiago Skates Past Adelanto with Ease

Santiago won the last time they faced Adelanto and things went their way on Friday too. The Sharks breezed past the Saints to the tune of 45-14. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Sharks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Saints are ranked 754th).

Clayton Plewe produced another solid effort throwing for 218 yards and one touchdown while completing 88.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 33 yards and one TD. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (147.3). Another player making a difference was Korey Saruwatari, who rushed for 32 yards and a pair of scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Santiago proved: they limited Adelanto to a paltry 1.2 yards per carry. While five picked up at least four total tackles, Jack Talley stood above the rest. He made four total tackles and snagged an interception. The dominant display was nothing new: Santiago has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in four consecutive games.

Santiago didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Talley and Caden Blokzyl.

Adelanto's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Javares Chambers, who picked up 111 receiving yards and one TD, and Josiah Hayes, who threw for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chambers was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 69 yards.

Santiago's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Adelanto, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Santiago wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 44-28 defeat against King on the 3rd. As for Adelanto, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 25-20 loss against Granite Hills on the 3rd.
