Durham and University Prep are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers on Saturday. Durham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Durham is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over Colusa. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.
Sadie Sjolund spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Annalee Horn was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maggie Sjolund, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Durham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 12-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, University Prep beat Colusa 8-5 on Thursday.
University Prep also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Rylynn Davis gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Caudell, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Alexandria Bull was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
University Prep's victory bumped their record up to 13-16. As for Durham, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.
University Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Durham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431.
