Portola has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the University Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portola has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Laguna Hills scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Portola still came out on top. Portola took their game against Laguna Hills 70-57.
Meanwhile, University pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-56 bruising from Woodbridge. While losing is never fun, University can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Woodbridge is ranked 128th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Christian Debarge, who scored 16 points along with five assists. Omar Gawdat was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Portola's win bumped their record up to 5-17. As for University, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Portola against University when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 101-62 victory. With Portola ahead 59-24 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
