Softball Game Preview: Willcox Cowboys vs. St. Augustine Catholic Wolves

Willcox is a perfect 4-0 against St. Augustine Catholic since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cowboys will challenge the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Willcox's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.

Last Wednesday, Willcox made easy work of Benson and carried off a 17-7 win. The Cowboys have beaten the Bobcats the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bobcats has come to flipping the script.

Gabby Galaz was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Donahue, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Willcox was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 11-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

St. Augustine Catholic played against Santa Cruz Valley on Wednesday and lost via forfeit.

Willcox pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Everything went Willcox's way against St. Augustine Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Willcox made off with a 16-2 victory. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
