Two dominant backs in Dj Johnson and Davaughn Thomas are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Riverview Sarasota Rams will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Palmetto Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Riverview Sarasota put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Charlotte at home to the tune of 54-6. The win was nothing new for Riverview Sarasota as they're now sitting on three straight.
It was another big night for Johnson, who rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Dawson, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Palmetto took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-7 victory over Ida Baker. Given Palmetto's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Ida Baker is ranked 532nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Palmetto's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamari Parker, who rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown. Another big playmaker for Palmetto was Dylan Wester, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Riverview Sarasota to 6-4 and Palmetto to 5-4.
Riverview Sarasota was able to grind out a solid win over Palmetto when the teams last played back in September, winning 52-42. Will Riverview Sarasota repeat their success, or does Palmetto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
