Humphreys County is 2-8 against Yazoo County since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cowboys will host the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Yazoo County will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Humphreys County extended their winning streak to 12 on Friday. The Cowboys blew past Edwards 20-5.
Kuriston Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, Xaylen Henderson was a standout: he scored five runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. Kenneth Ray was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Yazoo County faced off against Winona on Tuesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-3 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Humphreys County, Yazoo County also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Barron. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Barron was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Gabe Shaffer was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Josh Snow, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Humphreys County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Yazoo County, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Humphreys County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .523. However, it's not like Yazoo County struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
