The Kelly Trojans will challenge the Bogan Bengals at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kelly is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Kelly got the win against King by a conclusive 12-3. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by nine runs or more this season.
Josiah Velez and Jorge Ortega were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Velez struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Ortega tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Velez fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-4, while Ortega got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two home runs gave Velez a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arturo Martinez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Edrian Calderon was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Kelly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King only posted an OBP of .393.
Meanwhile, Bogan entered their contest against Agricultural Science on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Bengals came up short against the Cyclones, falling 10-3.
Kelly's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bogan, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.
Kelly suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Bogan when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
