Baseball Recap: Henley Picks Up 11th Consecutive Win

Henley waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Junction City Tigers as they made off with an 8-2 win. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

Mark Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacoby Tacchini, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Ryan Douglas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Henley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in three consecutive games.

Henley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Junction City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.

Coming up, Henley will square off against Hidden Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Junction City, they will challenge Cottage Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.35 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
