If the Wiregrass Kings were riding high off their 67-35 takedown of the Ezekiel Academy Knights last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Wiregrass took a hard 51-36 fall against Evangel Christian on Friday. While losing is never fun, Wiregrass can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Evangel Christian is ranked 79th).
Wiregrass' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Christian Miller, who scored 14 points, and Luke Strickland who scored 11 points. Strickland continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Evangel Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clay Stanton led the charge by scoring 13 points. Zion Thompson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Wiregrass' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Evangel Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing East Central HomeSchool the next time they take the court. Wiregrass will head out to face East Central HomeSchool at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, while Evangel Christian will host them at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
