After losing to the Fairbanks Panthers the last time they met, the Catholic Central Irish decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Catholic Central sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-35 win over Fairbanks on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Catholic Central.
Fairbanks lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reese Poling, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Rachael Hoover, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Catholic Central now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Fairbanks, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catholic Central will finish 2023 at home by hosting Triad at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Triad is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. Fairbanks will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Columbus School for Girls at 7:30 p.m. on December 30th.
