The Winnebago Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 52-45 to Hartington-Newcastle. That's two games in a row now that Winnebago has lost by exactly seven points.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lavelle Smith, who scored 13 points. Caden Brownrigg was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists.
Hartington-Newcastle found their leader in underclassman Brayden Lammers, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Lammers scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayton Sudbeck, who scored ten points.
Winnebago has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Hartington-Newcastle, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Winnebago will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Wakefield on February 6th. Hartington-Newcastle will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Homer at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th.
