The NCSSM: Durham Unicorns will venture away from home to take on the Chapel Hill Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
NCSSM: Durham easily dispatched Triangle Math & Science on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. NCSSM: Durham fell just short of Wake Prep Academy by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday.
NCSSM: Durham saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charles Roederer, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.
Meanwhile, Chapel Hill entered their tilt with Cedar Ridge on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over the Fighting Red Wolves. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Teagan CoyneSmith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Chapel Hill let Austin Campos and Jason Krieg run wild. Campos scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4, while Krieg got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Campos has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. James Staats was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Chapel Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
NCSSM: Durham's defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Chapel Hill, their record is now 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. NCSSM: Durham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
NCSSM: Durham might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Chapel Hill in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can NCSSM: Durham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
