Softball Recap: Lyons Wins Going Away Against the Academy

It was a proper cat-fight when Lyons took on The Academy on Monday. The Lions put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 16-4 victory. Considering the Lions have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Gretta Wynja made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ava Vasquez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Luci Santesteban, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

Lyons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Academy only posted an OBP of .353.

Lyons' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-3. As for The Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Lyons will venture away from home to take on Weld Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for The Academy, they will face off against Jefferson Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.38 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
