Even though Shipley scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, the Cross Christian Academy Centurions still came out on top. Cross Christian Academy slipped by Shipley 58-57. Given Cross Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 16th in Delaware, while Shipley is ranked 429th in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cross Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Brewington, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brewington has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontarius Jones, who scored 19 points.
Shipley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Henry Rassmussen, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Matt Lange was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Cross Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Shipley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cross Christian Academy on the road again on Monday and play against Tri-State Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 29th. Tri-State Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Cross Christian Academy likes a good challenge. As for Shipley, they will head out on the road to take on Friends' Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
